Our Programs

Women’s empowerment Group (WEG)

WEG creates brave space for Congolese and other refugee women to find mutual community with American women, build a support network, and grow in confidence while navigating life in Houston. Our collaborative initiatives include adult English classes, emergency assistance, women’s and pediatric healthcare support, and the Youth Empowerment Group.

Throughout the school year, we meet weekly on Thursday mornings, 10 am–noon, at St. Luke’s UMC Gethsemane (6856 Bellaire Blvd) to share resources and check on each other. A Zoom option is available; to get the link, email Francine at francine@famhoustontx.org

SHAMBA YA AMANI (FARM OF PEACE)

Our community farm in Alief is run by resettled refugees, immigrants, and local Houstonians with the hope that this agricultural endeavor will serve as a model for increasing food access and human connection.

We gather every Saturday morning to tend the community field, harvest vegetables, and host seasonal events like Cut-Your-Own Bouquet Days. Volunteers are always welcome!

Location: 8401 Dairy View Lane

PAMOJA

Meaning “together” in Swahili, Pamoja pairs newcomer and Houstonian families to form relationships, engage in mutual learning, and walk alongside one another through life’s ups and downs.

Our companioning model bridges gaps for newcomers and locals. Companions receive comprehensive training before they are matched with a family. Our hope is that companions will check in weekly.

Congregational Partners

We provide pathways for faith communities to discern vision of ministry with their neighbors and strategically engage in local relational ministry with the community.

Here are our Houston-area partners:

  • Westbury UMC

  • St. Mark’s UMC, Pecore

  • St. Paul’s UMC, Houston

  • Chapelwood UMC

  • Memorial Drive UMC

  • St. Luke’s UMC, Houston

Storytelling

Creative workshops and community events for all ages that invite neighbors into the practice of personal and communal storytelling.

Workshops are held seasonally and are often facilitated by local artists and creatives.

Epworth League

A city-wide ministry for 18–35-year-olds that provides community, fosters discipleship, and equips leaders to love their neighbors and serve God and the Church.
